Why pdfdots?

Private by design

Most tools process files locally in your browser. Office conversions run on our EU server and are deleted right after; anything you save to My files is encrypted.

Generous free plan

A free account with Google sign-in and no credit card: 3 tasks a day, files up to 10 MB, every tool. Need more? The paid plans (Bronze, Silver and Gold) raise the daily limit, with no daily limit at all on Silver and Gold, and accept larger files.

Fast

For browser tools there's no upload or download queue. Work starts the moment you drop a file and finishes at the speed of your own computer.

Works everywhere

Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, Android or Chromebook — if it has a modern browser, pdfdots runs on it. Nothing to install.

How pdfdots works, and how we would use it

We build pdfdots because we were tired of PDF sites that upload every file by default, hide the download behind a countdown and stamp a watermark on the result. Our aim is a set of free online PDF tools that each do one job properly: merge, split, compress, convert, sign, edit, protect, redact and OCR, all on the same simple page layout, so you never have to relearn anything when you move from one task to the next.

There are two kinds of tools here, and every tool page says which one you are using. Browser tools, the large majority, open your PDF with JavaScript and WebAssembly on your own computer or phone: nothing is uploaded, and the speed depends on your device. A handful of conversions, namely Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF, PDF to Word, Excel and PowerPoint, PDF/A, grayscale and HTML to PDF, need a full office engine, Ghostscript or a headless browser. Those files travel over HTTPS to our own server in Germany and are deleted as soon as the result comes back.

Picking the right tool is mostly about the end goal, not the file you start with. If a portal rejects a file for size, start with Compress PDF; if you need to change the wording, PDF to Word beats any PDF editor; if a scan has to be searchable, run OCR before converting it to anything else. When a job chains several steps, do the lossy step last: merge, reorder and number pages first, then compress or flatten, so quality is only reduced once.

The free plan needs a Google sign-in and no credit card. It gives you 3 tasks a day with files up to 10 MB, across every tool and without a watermark. Bronze, Silver and Gold accept larger files and raise the daily allowance, and Silver and Gold have no daily limit. If a document is too sensitive for any website, ours included, we would honestly rather you used the desktop software you already trust.
