When PNG beats JPG

PNG is a lossless format: every pixel is stored exactly, with none of the blocky artifacts JPG compression can leave around sharp edges. That makes PNG the better choice for pages with text, charts, diagrams, code, UI screenshots and line drawings. Put a page of a technical manual through both converters and the PNG text edges will look cleaner, especially at 72 or 150 DPI.

The downside is size. For pages full of photos, a PNG can be several times larger than the equivalent JPG with no visible benefit. A practical rule: text and graphics go to PNG, photos and scans go to JPG. Resolution works the same as in PDF to JPG — 72 DPI for small previews, 150 DPI for screens and documents, 300 DPI for print or detailed zooming.

Each page becomes a separate PNG. Single-page PDFs give you one image; multi-page PDFs give you a ZIP of numbered images in page order. The conversion runs in your browser, so the PDF stays on your device the whole time.
