A PDF looks the same on every device, which makes it the safest way to share a finished Word file, submit it to a portal or send it for printing. This converter accepts .doc, .docx, .odt, .rtf and .txt files and turns them into a clean PDF in a few seconds, without installing Office or paying anything.

Converting office documents properly needs a full office engine, so this tool works differently from our in-browser tools. Your file is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our own server in Germany (EU), converted, sent back to you and deleted immediately. It is never stored, never shared and never used for anything else. Files can be up to 10 MB on the free plan and up to 50 MB on paid plans. The conversion uses LibreOffice, a mature open-source office suite, which handles the vast majority of documents very well.

Headers, footers, tables, images, links and page breaks carry over to the PDF, and the page size and margins you set in Word are kept. If a font used in your document isn't embedded or available on the server, a similar font is substituted, so spacing can shift slightly; embedding fonts or using common fonts avoids this. If the resulting PDF is too big, run it through Compress PDF afterwards.

Before you upload, a two-minute check in Word saves most re-runs. Accept or reject all tracked changes, delete comments the recipient should not see, and look at File > Info for document properties such as the author name. If the document has a table of contents, update it first, because the PDF shows whatever page numbers were last calculated. Links to websites stay clickable in the PDF; we still click a couple of them before sending a job application or a thesis, just to be sure.

For everyday letters, CVs, reports and forms, this converter keeps the layout and is the quickest option on a phone or Chromebook. For a book-length manuscript with custom fonts, or a document a publisher will print, export from Word or LibreOffice on your own computer, where every font is installed. On the free plan you can convert files of up to 10 MB, three tasks a day; a text-only DOCX is usually a few hundred kilobytes, so the limit only matters for photo-heavy files.
