Black and white without losing sharp text

Printing a colorful PDF on an office printer burns through expensive color toner, and some print shops charge extra or reject files that contain color at all. Grayscale PDF converts every color in the document, in text, vector graphics and images, into shades of gray.

What we care about most is how it is done. Many online converters simply take a picture of each page, which makes text blurry, unsearchable and often larger in file size. Our tool keeps text and vector graphics as they are and only changes their colors, so letters stay sharp at any zoom level and you can still select and search them. Because color images become single-channel gray images, the file often gets a bit smaller too.

Conversion uses Ghostscript, so this tool runs on our server rather than in your browser. Your file is uploaded over HTTPS to our server in Germany, converted and deleted immediately afterwards, and files up to 50 MB are accepted. One tip from experience: charts that distinguish lines only by color can be hard to read in gray, so glance over them before you print a hundred copies.
