Fill in official PDF forms without printing them
Many official documents are published as fillable PDFs: application forms, declarations, registration sheets and order forms. They contain real form fields, but not every viewer handles them well, and on a phone they can be almost impossible to fill. Fill PDF Form reads those fields directly from the file and shows them to you as a clean, ordinary web form: text boxes, checkboxes, dropdown menus and radio buttons, each labelled with the field name the author gave it.
Everything runs in your browser. Forms tend to contain the most personal data we ever handle, such as ID numbers, addresses and income, so we never upload them. You can type names and addresses in any script, including accented letters and non-Latin characters. When you save, you can choose to flatten the form. Flattening turns every answer into regular page content, so the result looks the same in every viewer and the values can no longer be edited. We recommend it for anything you send to an authority, and keeping an unflattened copy for yourself.
Not every form is fillable. A scanned paper form or a PDF exported without fields only has lines drawn on the page. In that case we tell you that no fields were found and point you to Edit PDF, where you can click anywhere on the page and type your answers on top.
Our take
We use Fill PDF Form for the paperwork that still arrives as PDF: a visa application, a school enrolment form, a tax declaration or a rental application with real fields to type into.
We almost always tick Flatten before sending a form to an office. It turns the answers into regular page content, so nobody's viewer can accidentally show empty boxes and nobody can quietly change a value later. We keep an unflattened copy for ourselves in case we need to correct something.
The pitfall: many forms look fillable but are just scanned pages with lines. If we find no fields, we say so and suggest Edit PDF, where you can click and type anywhere. For a signature, finish with Sign PDF.
