Compress PDF to 1MB

"File must be smaller than 1 MB" is probably the most common upload rule on the internet. University and job applications, government services, visa appointment systems and insurance portals all use it. A 1 MB budget is generous enough that quality usually stays high. Even a scan of twenty or more pages normally remains sharp and easy to read, and a report with photos keeps its images looking natural. The tool starts with lighter compression and only goes stronger if it needs to, so you get the best-looking file that still fits. Big phone scans and PDFs from office copiers, which often weigh 10–50 MB, shrink the most.

The compressor re-renders every page as an optimized JPEG image. That's what makes it so effective on scans, but it also means the text in the output is no longer selectable and links won't be clickable. If your PDF is a text document exported from Word and only slightly larger than 1 MB, it may contain embedded images you can remove, or pages you can drop with Remove Pages.
