pdfdots as a TinyWow alternative
Last reviewed:
TinyWow is a big free toolbox. Its homepage advertises more than 200 online tools across PDF, image, video, AI writing and file conversion, and its PDF section alone lists 46 tools. You can open the PDF editor or the e-sign tool without creating an account. That reach is why so many people land there from a search result. People tend to look for an alternative for a few reasons: the free version shows ads and CAPTCHAs, its free limits are not published, or they would rather not upload a private document to a server in the United States.
We built pdfdots for that last group. Most of our tools, including Merge PDF, Compress PDF, Edit PDF, Sign PDF and OCR PDF, process the file inside your own browser tab, so the document never reaches us. We show no ads, our free limits are written down, and the paid plans are inexpensive. In return you need a free account, and our catalogue is much narrower: 37 tools in English, all about PDFs.
Below we compare the two services side by side, explain where TinyWow is clearly the stronger pick, and show how to do the most common TinyWow PDF jobs in pdfdots. We took the TinyWow details from its own public pages at the time of writing in October 2026. Plans and wording change, so check their pricing page before you decide.

How the two differ in practice
The biggest everyday difference is the path your file takes. On TinyWow you upload the document, their US servers process it, and you download the result. According to their privacy policy the files are deleted one hour after processing, and using the same file in another tool restarts that timer. Their Terms of Service mention a shorter target of 15 minutes, so the two documents do not quite agree, but both point to short retention. On pdfdots most tools never upload anything: the page does the work inside your browser and you save the output directly.
The second difference is how each service is funded. TinyWow's free version shows advertising. Its privacy policy says it uses analytics and third-party trackers, for example from Google and Facebook, for traffic analysis and advertising, and it lists opt-out options. It also says it does not sell user information or uploaded files. pdfdots has no ads and does not sell data. Instead we offer optional paid plans, ask for a free account, and cap free use at 3 tasks a day.
The third difference is predictability. We publish our free limits, so you know before you start that a 30 MB scan is too big for the free plan. TinyWow does not publish numbers for file size, batch size or task caps; its Premium plan is simply advertised as having no generation or upload limits. You may never hit a limit there, but you cannot plan around one either.
When TinyWow is the better choice
TinyWow does several things we do not try to do, and in these cases we would point you to it ourselves:
- You need a quick one-off edit or signature on a shared computer and do not want to create any account.
- You work with e-books: TinyWow converts EPUB, MOBI and AZW3 to and from PDF, and it also turns Outlook and EPS files into PDFs. We do not offer these.
- You want image, video and AI writing tools on the same site as your PDF tools. Our catalogue is PDF only.
- You need PDF to CSV or PDF translation, which are on their PDF tool list and not on ours.
- You run more than 3 jobs on a typical day, do not want to pay, and do not mind ads and CAPTCHAs. TinyWow does not publish a daily cap, while our free plan stops at 3 tasks.
Doing your usual TinyWow tasks in pdfdots
Most visitors use a handful of PDF tools again and again, and those map cleanly. Compress PDF shrinks a file for email or an upload portal entirely in your browser. Merge PDF combines files in the order you choose, and Split PDF, Remove pages and Organize PDF cover the page work. Edit PDF lets you add text and make changes to a document, and Fill PDF form completes existing forms. We also offer fillable templates such as an invoice, an NDA and a resume.
PDF to Word, Word to PDF and the other Office conversions run on our server in Nuremberg, Germany, because they need office conversion software. The file is deleted as soon as the result is returned. OCR PDF makes a scanned document searchable without leaving your browser, which is useful if you used TinyWow's text extraction mainly to copy text out of scans.
For signatures, Sign PDF places your own signature in the browser, and you can keep one saved signature on the free plan. If someone else needs to sign, the Studio has a send-for-signature flow with ordered signers, reminders, an audit trail and a certificate page. It is a simple electronic signature, not a qualified one, and each signer gets an e-mail invitation with a private link, with automatic reminders and a completion e-mail for everyone. The free plan includes 3 sign requests a month.
Privacy: where your files go
If you are handling payslips, medical letters, ID scans or contracts, the processing location matters more than the tool count. With TinyWow, files are uploaded over HTTPS to servers in the United States and deleted on the schedule described above. That is a reasonable setup for many documents, but the file still leaves your device.
With pdfdots, the browser tools never send the file anywhere. Only Office conversions, PDF/A, grayscale and HTML to PDF use our server at Hetzner in Nuremberg, and those files are deleted right after the result is returned. If you choose to save a result to My files, it is stored encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM on servers in Germany, and the same files are available in the PDF Dots mobile app with your account.
What pdfdots costs if you need more
The free plan gives you 3 tasks a day, files up to 10 MB, 100 MB of storage, 3 sign requests a month and one saved signature. Bronze costs $2.99 a month or $23.99 a year and raises that to 20 tasks a day, 25 MB files, 1 GB of storage and 10 sign requests a month. Silver costs $5.99 a month or $47.99 a year, removes the daily task limit and offers 100 MB files, 10 GB of storage and 50 sign requests a month. Gold costs $11.99 a month or $95.99 a year, with 250 MB files, 50 GB of storage and unlimited sign requests. At the time of writing in October 2026, TinyWow Premium was listed at $20 a month, or $15 a month on the yearly plan, with a 7-day free trial offered on tool pages and a 30-day money-back guarantee in its Terms of Service.

Frequently asked questions
Is pdfdots free like TinyWow?
Yes, within limits. The free plan gives you 3 tasks a day and files up to 10 MB, with no ads. TinyWow's free version shows ads and CAPTCHAs and does not publish its limits. If you need more, our paid plans start at $2.99 a month.
Why does pdfdots need an account when TinyWow does not?
The account lets us count the free daily tasks, keep our server tools fair to use and give you private, encrypted storage without showing ads. Signing in takes a Google account or an e-mail address, and the same account works in the PDF Dots mobile app.
Does pdfdots upload my files like TinyWow does?
Most pdfdots tools do not upload anything; they run in your browser. The exceptions are Office conversions, PDF/A, grayscale and HTML to PDF, which run on our server in Germany, and those files are deleted right after the result is returned. TinyWow processes files on its US servers.
Can pdfdots convert EPUB or MOBI files like TinyWow?
No. E-book formats, Outlook files and EPS are not part of our toolset. For those, TinyWow is the better option. We focus on the common PDF jobs: merging, compressing, converting to and from Office and images, editing, signing and OCR.
Can I ask other people to sign a document?
Yes. Studio's send-for-signature flow supports ordered signers, reminders, an audit trail and a certificate page. Each signer gets an e-mail invitation with a private link, and reminders go out automatically. TinyWow's eSign tool, as described on its site, is for signing your own PDF.
Is there a pdfdots mobile app?
Yes. The PDF Dots app for iPhone and Android uses the same account and the same My files storage. TinyWow's official site does not link to any mobile app.
